Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support and enhance our financial operations. This role focuses on statutory accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance, particularly within the insurance industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general accounting and a deep understanding of insurance-specific financial requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Prepare and file statutory financial reports and regulatory filings, including NAIC submissions and other insurance-related compliance documents.
- Collaborate with auditors and regulatory bodies during internal and external audits.
- Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting policies to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Assist in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to accounting staff, promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or management responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of statutory accounting and insurance industry regulations.
- Experience with financial reporting and regulatory compliance in an insurance environment.
- Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
